How PocketChoir works

PocketChoir turns the scores your choir already sings into a private practice player for every voice.

  1. 1. Create your choir space

Sign up with your email, name your choir and pick its language. Your choir gets its own private link and an access code you can change at any time.

  2. 2. Upload a score

Upload a PDF (printed, scanned or photographed flat) or a MusicXML file exported from MuseScore, Sibelius, Finale or Dorico. Add the title and anything we should know, for example which staves are which voices.

  3. 3. We prepare it

MusicXML is converted at once. A PDF is read note by note and checked, then turned into a playable score; this takes up to 2 hours. You get an email when it is ready.

  4. 4. Your singers practise

Send your singers the link and the code. They choose their voice once and then practise: only their part or the whole choir, slower, on repeat, with the score following along.

Which scores work best

  • Choral scores with one staff per voice (SATB, SSAA, TTBB and others), or two voices on a staff
  • Clear PDFs: from notation software, a good scan or a flat photo
  • MusicXML (.musicxml, .xml, .mxl) from any notation program: ready in seconds
  • Any language for the lyrics and the titles

What singers can do in the player

  • Choose their voice, and their line when the voice divides
  • Hear only their voice, or the whole choir
  • Change the speed (slow, a bit slow, normal, or exact)
  • Start from any section or any bar, repeat a passage
  • Get their starting note with one tap
  • Follow the score with lyrics, in light or dark mode
  • Count-in and metronome
  • Piano, sung “aah” or a pure tone
